”Be sure to fear the Lord and serve Him faithfully with all of your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.” – 1 Samuel 12:24

I have lots of Bibles. Each of them have served me in a season of my life and I have a hard time parting with them. I had considered donating my first Bible to a Christian thrift store, but before I did, I thumbed through it one last time. I came across some notes that I and taken when I was in 5th grade. I know that I was in 5th grade because I got a new Bible that year and that was the first year that I remember really taking notes in a Bible. I learned this in my Sunday School class. Mr. Blackstone was a great teacher.

Anyway, the preceding verse was written in my Bible. It was a verse that was so near and dear to my hear that I wrote it down. However, it was one that my mind had forgotten. I don’t have this verse committed to memory (although, I intend to put it there). Even though I don’t have this verse memorized, Mr. Blackstone made sure that it was imprinted on my heart. We are called to have a ”childlike faith”. That’s because we believe what we are told and we become passionate about what we live for. This verse reminded me of what I need to be passionate about: serving Him and being thankful. That means to open my home and help others when they need it, not when it’s convenient for me. That means to be content with all that He has given to me.

As a military wife, there is always someone who could use help. Many soldiers are deployed and many spouses/families are struggling. As a military wife, there are many times when we could complain (and no one would probably fault us), but that is when I need to be content. Content that my husband is deployed, but will return to use. Content that I have a husband who, although may be away, is a spiritual warrior and man of integrity. Content that I am blessed to spend each day with my kids. Content that my house provides what we need. Content to simply serve Him… FAITHFULLY… and with ALL my heart.
