Don’t Worry…

Lindsay lies there in her hospital bed.

Gabe sits in his chair next to her.

The doctors come in and out.

The nurses come in and out.

Lindsay has been in her medically induced coma for several days.

Gabe has not communicated with Lindsay since she went back into the coma.

It has been almost a week and the doctor tells Gabe outside Lindsay’s room…

Doctor: “She has a 50% chance of making it.”

Gabe: “What?”

Doctor: “She is very sick, her lungs are hard and we are still not sure where the infection is coming from.”

Gabe: “She is going to be ok, right?”

Doctor: “We are treating her with several types of antibiotics to fight any kind of infection.”

Gabe: “I know she is going to be ok, I just know it.”

Two more days pass and Gabe still has not had a chance to communicate with Lindsay.

For days all he could do is watch the machines and ask the nurses and doctors if she was getting better. Everyone just said it is going to take some time, but they have had good luck with the room she was in. Gabe clinging to anything that he could, felt optimistic with every positive word anyone told him.

Every day that passed was a day Gabe had to spend away from his two little boys. Too young to understand what was happening, Gabe could only try to keep a smile on his face, while his insides were being eaten up with fear of the unknown. Fear of when and if the two little boy’s mommy would come home.

Just two days after the doctor told Gabe Lindsay had a 50% chance of making it, Gabe walked to the nurses station and he heard the words from the doctor he had been waiting for…

Gabe: “How is she doing doc?”

Doctor: “You know, her numbers are getting better, except for the white blood cells. It is going to take a while, maybe a few more weeks, but I think she is going to be ok.”

Gabe: “Wow, to hear that from you, it must be good, right?”

Doctor: “Lets be patient, but I think her lungs are getting slightly better.”

Gabe: “That is the best news I have gotten since arriving here.”

Another day passes and Gabe gets the news that Lindsay’s white blood cells have doubled again. Her numbers begin to drop again.

Yet another day passes and Lindsay’s white blood cells doubled again…

There was an infection which they were not sure where it was coming from. It was continuing to attack the lungs. The numbers continued to drop. Hope began to fade a little, but Gabe still had faith his wife would walk out of the hospital doors with him and she would arrive home to two little boys with arms wide open.

Gabe did not know it, but this would be the last day he would have with his dear wife. The hours were coming to a close. The days had closed and the minutes were nearing. Minutes seemed like seconds, hours like minutes, days like hours.

Gabe stood by Lindsay as the doctors checked to see if she had a tubular pregnancy. She was indeed still pregnant, but there were no traces of a tubular pregnancy. There was no infection.

The nurse walks in…

Nurse: “Gabe, the doctor is on the phone for you.”

Gabe walks to the phone just outside the room…

Gabe: “Hello?”

Doctor: “Hi Gabe… you know we have tried everything we can. We have treated her with all the antibiotics we can and the infection seems to be getting worse.”

Then it came…

Doctor: “I am sorry, but she is not going to make it.”

Gabe: “Excuse me?”

Doctor: “We have tried everything.”

Gabe: “No, this is not acceptable! You can not tell me this over the phone! Surely, there is something you can do!”

Doctor: “I am sorry, but this happens.”

Gabe: “No, I will not accept that. You have to come up here and keep trying. She is still breathing!”

Doctor: “There is nothing we can do.”

Gabe: “You are not doing it like this, get up here and try something.”

Doctor: “Ok, I will be there in half an hour. I just wanted to tell you in case she doesn’t make it by the time I get there.”

Gabe: “See you soon!”

Gabe enters the room… He is forced to tell the family the news the doctor just gave him.

Gabe sits by Lindsay’s side reading out of a prayer book he was given. He tells her all the things he would want to tell her without giving up hope. He still thought she would be ok and he didn’t want her to think she could give up… as if they were in control.

You see since Gabe and Lindsay entered that hospital one word circulated between friends, family, and medical staff… “Miracle”

Gabe knew it would take a miracle for his wife go home with him. After all, that is what God does… he performs miracles.

As Gabe stood next to Lindsay’s bed when she first went into the hospital…

“Don’t worry, its all part of the miracle.”

As Gabe stood next to Lindsay’s bed as she was in her coma for the first couple days…

“Don’t worry, its all part of the miracle.”

As Gabe stood next to Lindsay’s bed as she was conscious…

“Don’t worry, its all part of the miracle.”

As Gabe stood next to Lindsay’s bed as she was in her coma…

“Don’t worry, its all part of the miracle.”

As Gabe stood next to Lindsay’s bed as she was fading away into the light… It was then it clicked…

“It is all part of the miracle.”

This life is full of miracles, but there is one great miracle that we are all part of…

We are part of the miracle of eternal life.

After all this is an eternal life.

Lindsay did make it home and this is…

Gabe
